Blog 4: re visiting the first track and artistic influence
After sitting with the intro track for 2 weeks I realised I needed to add more to it. I came to this conclusion as I started listening to the tenet soundtrack which is one of my influences cited in my proposal presentation. The tenet intro track is filled with impactful moments with still being melodic, the impact of the tenet intro track was so great that I felt like my piece paled in comparison. I decided to analyse and study the soundtrack trying to figure out what makes me like the tenet soundtrack so much, my main reference from the tenet soundtrack is rainy night in tailin This track has so many crescendos and moments while using sounds normally not heard in film music for example Ludwig Gorranson uses 808 bass sounds and kicks and trap hi hats which are associated heavily with hip-hop. He has used these sounds in such a forward-thinking way it almost creates a new genre. I was very lucky to find him breaking down this exact track on an interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Jp4ReNDz7DI&t=71s

This breakdown gave me so much more insight into his production techniques and the intricacies involved in production. After gaining some insight, I decided to scrap the second half of the intro track to introduce a huge moment that sets the tone for the rest of the soundtrack. I do this by introducing sounds that contrast the timbres of the ones that have come before it. By doing this, the listener can feel the new section’s impact as it would not be the same if only the new section existed by itself, as there is nothing to compare it to. To me contrast is important in my music, as a unique sound or idea needs to have some sort of normality or difference behind it for it to take full effect.
